Marco Bratt at Mantra 2003

February 2004

Rob Roef of Macro Bratt Tattoos reviews the 2003 Mantra Festival.

This year was my first Mantra Festival and, I must say, you really have to visit this show in Cheltenham! I was in very good company, travelling with Marco Bratt and Hori Hiro which is always good fun.

It took us some time to get round the M25 but we still arrived very relaxed at our "Bed & Breakfast". I'm not telling you which one we took because next time we're definitely gonna stay there as well!

The first night there was a warm welcome with a buffet for all the artists on the top floor of the stand at Cheltenham racecourse. The barmen/women at the racecourse were amused at serving all these strange people! It was really nice seeing all our friends again but a pity that the bar closed early... so we went out with Woody into Cheltenham town for some more fun.

The next day, after buying some presents for our children, we made our way up to the show. The weather was fantastic - so with sweaty shirts we set up the booth.

The audience was cool all weekend! There was a relaxed atmosphere and all the artists had plenty of work to do. There were actually people outside who had been waiting for hours to make sure the got tattooed by their chosen artist.

In a nutshell: we had a good laugh, a good few drinks, a little less good food - and we made some excellent new friends.

Mantra, we'll be back!

Ciao for now,
